Standard Bank, FNB, Absa and Nedbank ATMs at branches or malls are the safe pick; operator fees are modest.
Cards fine in cities; cash for townships markets, tips and rural fuel stops.
Safari lodges quoting in dollars will often settle in rand if asked. Network rates on rand beat both DCC and their in-house USD rate.
